The Plans for 5th September

09.05.09

The 50th anniversary celebration day will be held at the Oakwood Youth Challenge centre in Wokingham (see www.oakwoodyouth.co.uk). Oakwood has extensive grounds and activity facilities that we will be able to make use of during the day.

There will be a full programme of activities throughout the day for all different ages. We hope to make the day "like a day on camp" with many of the old favourite activities from days gone by.

For those who may live some way from the Thames valley, the Oakwood site does have limited accommodation and so we can offer 2 nights' accommodation over the anniversary weekend (i.e. Friday night and Saturday night) on a first come first served basis. See the accommodation for details about booking accommodation.

Programme for the Day

In overview, the following main events will occur during the day:

12.00-12.45pmPicnic Lunch
12.45-1.15pmWelcome ceremony
1.30-5.00pmAfternoon activities
5.00-6.00pmCamp Chat

8.00-9.00pmEvening Bonfire

Please come any time from 12.00noon and bring your own picnic lunch. Hot and cold drinks will be available throughout the day in the refreshments tent.

After lunch there will be a short welcome ceremony when we will introduce some old faces and let everyone know the programme for the day. We are hoping that Mrs Iris Smith (who was involved with her husband Cecil 50 years ago at the first camp) will be able attend and officially open the day.

Throughout the afternoon there will be a range of activities for all ages including:
  • Bookshop / Tuckshop / Refreshments
  • Historical display from the past 50 years including olds photos and videos
  • Children's activities (including Games / Competitions / Stories / Farm visit, etc)
  • All age Sports / Games / Competitions (including the "football cage")
  • Oakwood run activities: High ropes / Low ropes / Archery (see below to book)
The camp chat should be a highlight of the day when we come together in the main marquee to thank God for the last 50 years. It will just like being back at camp including quiz, singing and a short talk.

There will be BBQ style food available for all after the camp chat and for those who would like to stay late there will be a camp bonfire later in the evening.

Oakwood activities (require booking)

02.09.09

If you are feeling particularly adventurous we will have some activity slots organised by the Oakwood team (typically each slot is for 1 to 1.5 hours). Oakwood (www.oakwoodyouth.co.uk) have fully trained leaders who run these. Minimum age will be 12 years old and all children (under 18) must have a signed parental consent form.

We plan to make available 2 of the 3 options (High ropes / Low ropes / Archery). In order to decide which options are most popular please contact in advance to book a place on one of these activity slots. There is a limit to the slots available so please book in advance and indicate which options you would prefer. (Email alan@tvcc.info to book).

IMPORTANT: If you wish to take part if one of the above activities, after emailing us you need to complete a consent form. If you are under 18yrs of age you MUST bring a completed consent form signed by your parent/guardian with you on the day. The consent form can be downloaded here:

Cost

09.05.09

We want to make this celebration available to as many as possible and so will not be charging for the event itself or the activities on the day. The cost of running the event is being covered by a combination of TVCC funds and gifts from supporters of the work of TVCC. Note: Some additional items will be charged e.g. book/tuck shop and overnight accommodation.

Miscellaneous

17.08.09

We want the day to be fun for all the family so please bring your family. If you have very small children there will be a creche area equipped with toys etc available for parents to look after their children in. Please note parents must stay with their children and be responsible for them at all times.

It would be really helpful in planning the day to have a rough idea of the numbers coming so if you are able to email indicating how many of you are coming and even an idea of how many children / adults etc that would be great. (Email alan@tvcc.info).
